Trend Obsession: Drop Waist

The 1920’s are coming back in full swing (pun intended). After The Great Gatsby came out featuring the oh so glamorous duo of Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, the flapper dresses and feathers were everywhere.

The glitz and the glamour of the 1920’s is without a doubt inspiring and something to lust after but let’s be honest it’s not very wearable. If you walk out into the real world looking like a guest of Gatsby’s great parties you will get looked at strangely.  There is nothing wrong with wearing it to a costume party or themed party, I have seen plenty of those lately. My Halloween costume this year was a feather boa, crystal headband-wearing flapper.

I felt completely glamorous and in touch with the 20’s. I love the idea of dressing up and leaving my world for one night. I get to be who ever I want to be. Then I realized getting dressed up doesn’t have to stop there.

You can bet your red lips that the fashion world definitely picked up on this trend! But how?

Drop waist everything!

1. Skirts
(All of the following pictures are from Atlantic-Pacific)

2. Shirts
3. My personal favorite - Dresses

I honestly haven't picked up anything that has a drop waist. I can't wait to pick up a dress and a skirt. Share with me your pictures of anything drop waist you have styled!

Tons of love,

The Critical Years, Your 20's

People think bad, awful things are funny right? That’s why we watch things like Jackass? Well, that may be a bit extreme, but don’t people love bad situations. In movies when you see someone slip and fall you laugh because you know it's not serious. You know life sometimes knocks you down, but at the end everything is always okay.

So ever since I turned 20 my life has been a series of badly scripted sitcom episodes. The ones with the fake laughter in the background. Naturally, I started a diary to document my life in a new decade. It is supposed to become a best seller, like all of my other writings…

Anyways my diary, “My Twenties," became too personal to share publicly. I would be mortified if it made the best sellers list. To my defense there are a lot of life lessons hidden amongst all of the ugly.

I am proud to have made it to 20 and still have eyebrows. I could've sworn that by now my bad cooking would have burned them off. So if you are 20, have eyebrows, and are dying at some univeristy you are okay.

Your 20's are great don't get me wrong! They are hilarious. Except you might get the funny part a couple of years from now. Here are the top 5 most popular things to do when you are 20, so if you can relate to more than one, congrats you are in your prime 20's.

1.    You have had instant soup for every meal of the day.

2.    You have had a traumatizing break-up and feel like you are going to die alone with 27 cats.

3.   When this is how you respond when people ask you what you want to do with your major.

 4.     When Happy Hour is a necessity.

5.   Showering has become "me" time.

So, cheers to our series of falls and mistakes and poorness. Let those around you laugh because it’s funny. It really is. Besides they have been exactly where you are.

The Heights

Hello, I recently took a trip to The Heights in Houston, Texas with my parents. This is a street filled with vintage shops and stores with unique little gifts. I remember coming here once a couple of years ago and actually ended up finding a vintage Chanel purse, which I now guard with my life. I wanted to do a review for this street instead of doing a review for each individual shop.

Location: If you look this up on google I'm sure you can find an address. The location is great because all the shops are right next to each other and there is not a lot of traffic along that street.

Parking: There are huge parking lots everywhere, some you may have to pay but others you don't. You just have to be patient and drive around for a little bit. You usually find parking along the streets for free.

The whole feel for the street is vintage. You can basically find anything. My personal favorite is Grace Hart. I love this store. It is huge, the people are so friendly, and there is always some sort of discount. Oh and you can always find something designer in here!

Overall I rate this street five stars. If you are in Houston for a holiday, visit The Heights. It is a lot of fun roaming the street and strolling through the shops. There are always fun networking events going on here as well so if you plan ahead you may be able to attend one of these.

Let me know if you have every been here? Or what your favorite place to go vintage shopping is!

Love at First Sight

There is always the first time. There is always that moment that sends you on a spiraling daze. It's the first time you catch a glimpse of beauty. You immediately fall in love and you can't remember the last time you felt this way. You can't stop thinking about it and every time you do you are filled with anxiety and wonder of when you two will meet again.

Scary thoughts start creeping into your head. "What if I am aiming out of my league, what if someone else has already captured this beauty, is the status taken," these questions run through your head as you catch your self pacing your office.

You can't helped but start day dreaming of your life as a pair, inseparable. "Oh how magnificent we would look together," is all you can tell yourself. You realize it's not a want anymore, it's a need. You spend every lunch running through all the popular blocks in town hoping to bump into your love. Every other second you're stalking the web to find out more information. You're constantly asking and posting classified ads asking if anyone has seen what has absolutely captured your heart.

Then all of sudden you get a hit online. It's all right there. All the information in the world, address, contact number, and beautiful pictures. Your breath escapes you and your heart is beating. "Is this too good to be true," you ask yourself as you quickly refresh the page to make sure it's not a figment of your imagination. You are ready to make the first step into making your object of lust yours, and when you push "Confirm Purchase," you realize that true love does exists.

Brenda's Shopping Review: Burlington Coat Factory

I am going to start a new series where I review stores I have visited, from chain stores to local boutiques  I want to share with you the time wasters and the gems. As my traveling picks up I will be able to review stores in other parts of the country & hopefully the world. The next posts will have pictures (pinky promise)!

Under Review: Burlington Coat Factory

I recently went to a Burlington Coat Factory in Austin, Texas (the exact address: 6600 Middle Fiskville Rd Austin 78701). I can not say enough good things about Burlington Coat Factory, I have always found amazing deals and had nothing to complain about until I went to this store.

Location: The location was hard to find, it's a bit hidden from view.

Parking: Huge parking lot. I am sure there will never be an instance where there is no parking.

Cleanliness: This store was actually very clean. Usually these big discount chain stores are ridiculously messy and scattered but this one surprised me. It was very clean but it was due to something that leads me to my next point.

Merchandise: There wasn't a lot of stuff. Point blank there was not a lot of selection. Huge store but little merchandise.

Service: Now this is not Saks so I do not expect great service. The people that worked there were very nonchalant. They were not rude but they were not around to ask for questions either. Looked like no one wanted to be there.

This store was not a gem in the rough but it still had a couple of good deals. I would not go out of my way to come here again but if I am by the neighborhood and really have nothing to do I would stop by again.

Conclusion: Nothing lost, nothing gained. I rate it two stars, at least it was clean. Better luck next time.

If you have any requests of stores let me know the name and location or the website!

Happy Shopping!

Happy Fourth of July

Happy belated fourth of July! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday filled with tons of sparklers and hot dogs. I got the chance to come back to my hometown (as I am staying in the city my university is in for the summer) for the holiday. I went downtown with my love and enjoy the festival. I must say the fireworks show was spectacular! What did you do for the fourth?
I hope you enjoy my red, white, and blue themed outfit.

Botanical Gardens

As a lover of all things beauty and adventure it seemed like the Botanical Gardens would be a great place to visit. It was beautiful and inspiring but the southern heat was a little hard to bear. It was so much exploring and finding beautiful scenes to shoot. I hope you guys enjoy the pictures.
